This is a serious track about REAL LIFE CONCERNS so appreciate that shit or else I’m gonna continue to only write lyrics about how I am good at rapping.
Seriously, though, the beat has been out there for a long time and I even finished a version of this about two months ago that I never did anything with cuz it feels sort of strange to be airing out something so autobiographical. But I like the track so fuck it.
[Manual Labor]
streamin’ for your delight and amusement:
[Focus In!]
i plan on doing a lot of heavy lifting in the lab this week (metaphorically speaking, since i am actually not too into lifting heavy objects and i don’t actually own a laboratory). keep an eye here for new shit.
i’ve been uploading most of my new work all over the place lately and if you’re only following one of my many facebook/myspace/whatever-the-fuck-else accounts, you’ve probably missed out on a few of the new songs i’ve tossed out there. Here’s a compendium:
[Holy Diver] the first new track i threw together after getting my Logic Studio setup up and running. i really like this a lot — the EW&F sample is pretty nice and i’m a big fan of the autotuned Dio chorus, which is pretty much completely the result of me not being very into the whole process of penning hooks.
[The Spare Change Shake] the sample is WAR, the banjo-sounding stuff is, at least. these lyrics are actually from a much older track that didn’t make it onto “Sharks!” because it sounded sort of hokey. i like this version a lot, though.
[Working a Gimmick 09] this is the new version of a track that was on the mixtape. it’s a pretty belligerent shot across the bow of ‘nerdcore’, a personal pet peeve of mine, and the original track was recorded over an MC Chris instrumental for emphasis. this is a hell of a lot better, though — the beat bangs pretty hard and the new third verse is definitely a spot-on recreation of the whole “hip hop as nostalgia trip” phenomenon.
when a website is ugly, you don’t really want to do anything with it, and you never really give out the address, and nobody ever ends up visiting it. That’s the problem I was having with satellite-high.com previously — it was kind of a hastily-assembled layout that didn’t even look as clean as a facebook page, so I was relying on third-party websites to host all of my content and generally creating a nightmare for anybody that was looking for the “official word” regarding anything. hopefully this redesign is a step in the right direction, i hope you enjoy it.
the navigation on the top right is links to various releases — as i record more, more links will appear, but if you haven’t already got a free copy of “Sharks!” or the “The Shark Week Mixtape, Vol. 1″, click up there and grab ‘em. both records are now hosted externally through the wonderful magic of double d records, and lossless versions of the files are also available for a donation (you pick the price).
you’ve probably already noticed the li’l music player over there on the right-hand side of your screen, but what you didn’t know until RIGHT FUCKIN’ NOW is that i can embed mp3’s into posts now like all the fancy blogs do. here’s a little thing i recorded one day that is a fake commercial for an apartment complex that’s built in an abandoned church near the freeway. no, i’m not fucking with you, that’s really what it is:
[Sacred Hollow radio spot]
* guitar solo *
so anyway, that’s about it. i’ll be updating frequently with new tracks and news and all of that nonsense so go ahead and subscribe to the rss feed if you’re so inclined. until then, take it easy, and thanks for supporting independent music!
