Sup Internet? [Welcome new peoples]

I know I chronically neglect this website (your best bet for actually catching up-to-date news is to check me out on facebook at www.facebook.com/satellitehigh) but I realize that there are probably a handful of new people stumbling across this site due to the developments of the past week.

Long story short, for those who don’t know, last week I recorded a parody campaign song for South Carolina Senatorial candidate Alvin Greene. If you’re unfamiliar with the bizarre story of Mr. Greene, I’d look into it, but suffice it to say that he’s far from a traditional candidate, and has a lot of facets of his story that seemed ripe for parody. A friend of mine who operates a satirical Alvin Greene twitter account was like “hey, let’s make a campaign video”, so I recorded the most obnoxiously anachronistic Fruity Pebbles rap I possibly could, and handed it off to the dude who ended up making a YouTube video and hosting it. And that’s where the fun began.

The New York Times assumed the video was a legitimate campaign ad from the Greene camp and reported on it as such. Immediately, other news outlets started citing the NYT article and writing their own articles. It was a full day before I was finally contacted by CNN about the video to ’set the record straight’. Since then, the video’s turned into a little bit of a sensation, and has been targeted for multiple takedown notices from a prominent conservative group founded by a member of Americans For Prosperity, who seems to be a little shook about the attention this is granting to Jim DeMint’s opponent.

Here is a link to a piece on Mr. Destructo which breaks down the story in greater detail, if you’re interested.

For those whose first introduction to my music is from this whole fiasco, I’d like to extend an invitation to listen to some of my music that isn’t a big ol’ joke, depending on who you ask. I have three albums worth of non-parody music that are all free (or pay-what-you-want) releases, “The Shark Week Mixtape Vol. 1″, “Shark Week”, and “This Mic is a Pipe Bomb”. All are available using the links on the right-hand side of the page, and if you’re into hip hop, they’re worth listening to, in my humble opinion of course. Please download ‘em, share ‘em with your friends, etc.

Also, you can follow me on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/lildanzig but be forewarned that I work a desk job and get bored a lot and have a tendency to update quite
frequently.

I’m currently working on a handful of collaborative projects, trying to break myself out of the “working by myself” rut, and have a bunch of new solo tracks as well, although I’ve been trying to maintain much more discipline about leaking out tracks as I make them so I can actually have some album joints you haven’t already heard next time around.

Here’s a link to the Olbermann piece, which I think may be the last place on the net that this video exists without risk of a Frank Industries take-down notice. When they say “San Francisco-based producer Jay Friedman”, that’s me.

Big ups to virgiltexas for making the video, engaging in social engineering, and all of the other hard work that went into this beyond recording a joke song.

Blastin morons on the tubers

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck. Adobe Flash Player is required to view the video.

This is a couple weeks old now but I never posted it here cuz I was engaging in my usual “IGNORING MY OWN WEBSITE” behavior.

If you’ve never seen the original OTP video I’m responding to, look it up, I don’t wanna link to it — It’s a group of three or four tea party ‘rappers’ running through some auto-tuned amateur garbage about far-right politics and the last dude that ‘raps’ brags about being a right wing extremist, etc. But their most egregious offense is just being totally fucking musically awful.

Anyway, it’s shown up on a couple websites lately and the comments are kind of blowing up with people alternately praising it and calling me a REVERSE RACIST or something, which is pretty entertaining.

Enjoy.

Twitter / AIM / whatever.

Hey ya’ll, couple of things. First of all, I’m abandoning the @satellitehigh twitter account because I barely ever updated it, while in contrast, I have a ‘personal’ account I update WAY too frequently. In an effort to consolidate my life and appear more like a real person and less like a musical automaton, I’d like to encourage all of you to follow this twitter instead:

http://www.twitter.com/lildanzig

And also, if you’re AIM inclined, you can find me at: GoDumbLikeThis — feel free to hit me up with whatever, I’m usually around.

Response to TMIAPB has been incredible so far, everybody, I appreciate the plays and the consideration and I promise to keep on’ working hard to bring more tunes your way soon.

~THIS MIC IS A PIPE BOMB!~

NEW ALBUM NEW ALBUM NEW ALBUM NEW ALBUM NEW ALBUM NEW ALBUM

Here it is, folks. No intro (I know, I know) cuz the whole moving situation kicked my ass and I feel like I need a fresh start to really get back into full-on production mode. So here’s the fruits of my labors for the past eight months or so, “This Mic is a Pipe Bomb”.

Mediafire
Megaupload

Here’s the track list:
1) Get Your Eyes Back In Your Head
2) (Who Will Be Laughing) Once I Learn Guitar
3) Focus In!
4) Manual Labor (Palms, Wrists, Knuckles & Fists)
5) The Realities of Municipal Hustle
6) Holy Diver
7) Turn Off the Damn Radio
8) The Spare Change Shake

And, yeah, a lot of this won’t be new to you if you’ve been following this page, but please spread this around as much as you can and, as always, feel free to rehost and relink and whatever the hell you wanna do to get the word out. I’m real proud of this and I’d like the world to know so go ahead and do your part — if you like the record, share it with a friend or whatever.

As before, this record is entirely self-produced, every sound on it is a sound I made unless I ripped it off a record — No external producers or engineers or anything, just two hands and a dream (and a cliched catch-phrase, apparently). The artwork was created by the talented Anderson M. Cook (andersonmcook@gmail.com) and the idea was to mimic the political hardcore records I grew up listening to from labels like Ebullition and Mountain. I think it came across REAL well.

The next record is definitely going to be much more of an “album” than a collection of tracks and I have some pretty heady ideas about it and a collection of interesting guests I plan on inviting to keep things from being such an insular process. Keep your eyes peeled for sure, thanks for your patience, and don’t forget that hip hop isn’t dead just cuz a couple people wanna sell their records by saying that it is.

“Get Your Eyes Back In Your Head”

[Get Your Eyes Back In Your Head]

New track. Total late 90’s shit in effect. Simple and shit. It’s hard for me to produce ’simple’ but I’m trying.

Couple of new tracks…

Wow. Just realized that I posted “The Realities of Municipal Hustle” to my Facebook page and not here. It’s there now.

Also, there’s a new song up about talk radio, “Turn off the Damn Radio”.

Both songs are at the bottom of the player until I figure out an easier way to get them up to the top. Thanks for sticking with me through this dry spell, ya’ll. More stuff coming soon.

“(Who Will be Laughing) Once I Learn Guitar”

NEW TRACK NEW TRACK WOOT.

[(Who Will Be Laughing) Once I Learn Guitar]

Definitely trying to go in sort of a new direction with production here, something a little sloppier and more sample-oriented. Also the flow is kinda a new thing for me too, trying to do something a bit more modern since I’ve basically been aping Kool G Rap for long enough that somebody is eventually going to figure it out.

satellite high IS johnny boob.

don’t tell anybody…. lol

to be honest, i was kind of debating posting this because i wanted to keep the JOKE STUFF separated from the REAL STUFF but I think it’s a pretty faithful tribute to the whole miami bass thing (i grew up surrounded by shit like Poison Clan and the 2 Live Crew) so hopefully people will get where it’s coming from and recognize the difference between making a funny song once in a while and dressing up in costumes and performing live shows at comic book conventions to sucker nerds out of their money.

i promise that i’ll be posting more “real tracks” soon but, in the meantime, please enjoy boobs.

I know it looks like I’m slackin’…

But I’m not, I swear!

Got a new track here called “Irrational Actors” but it’s gonna have a Ken DZ feature on it so I’m waiting for him to record that shit before I post it. I’ve also been making like a billion beats lately but haven’t really been feeling the inspiration to write lyrics so maybe ya’ll can post a bunch of awesome ideas here for things to write songs about and kickstart my stagnant brain. Or maybe I’ll just drop a beat tape, lol.

Either way, bear with me, I promise there will be new shit to listen to very soon.
